Desert ruins

I was hired to work with the British street magazine The Big Issue, who were looking for an illustration to go with a book review for Issue #1401, published the 16th of March 2020. The book in question was David Ferrier’s “Footprints: In Search of Future Fossils”, which describes how buildings of our time will become relics in several hundred or thousand years and the future population will try to figure out who we are from looking at these ruins. Much like we currently do with ancient temples and building.

Working from some of the text in the book review the art director led me down the path of how some modern buildings would look and be overran by nature in thousands of years. The buildings in question are the Shanghai Tower, and Shanghai World Financial Center.

And this is what the illustration looks like on the page of The Big Issue. I’m so happy to have been part of this, and super grateful for the help and support by the Big Issue’s AD. You can also read the book review, and see my illustration on the Big Issue’s site.
