I decided to have another go at painting this image of Incubus’ singer Brandon Boyd in early 2021, because I really felt that my limited colour palette portraits had changed quite a bit. Not only am I using more colours, but I’ve also embraced the texture of my favourite brush as well. The image is based on this wonderful portrait of Brandon. taken by by the very talented Keilen photography, and was posted on Brandon’s Instagram account.
I also painted all the band members of Incubus in a similar style, but with a few more colours.
If you’re in the market for a portrait, or maybe have a project that needs an illustrator, to drop me a line!
The initial portrait I painted back in 2020. Comparing the two is kind of like comparing two different styles in some way. This one is much more simplified, which is partially down to using so few colours, but it was also one of the very early portraits I painted using this style. That said, I think this image still holds its own, and has been an important step in developing the style I am currently using in my portraits.
