Princess Leia

Digital stylised portrait of Princess Leia from Star Wars; A New Hope, from the scene in the Throne room at the end of the film. Leia is side on facing the left hand side of the image, calmly gazing into the distance with her lips slightly parted, and her hair in an elaborate braided hairdo. The image is painted digitally using nine colours including white.

After having edited the video of my Star Wars portraits done during Huely 2020 (see below), I felt like painting the dynamic trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia again. Instead of repainting the older portrait, I chose to go with a new reference image, but still from Star Wars: A New Hope. I also wanted to add more dimension to the portrait by adding a few more colours to my limited colour palette portrait style. I also picked a colour palette for all three images, which are believable for portraits, but not quite true to the reference images. Check out the post on my Instagram to see the portrait and reference images in one place.

If you’re in the market for a portrait, or maybe have a project which could use an artist/illustrator, to drop me a line!

Princess Leia - Huely 2020

Media: Digital.

I did a little series of Star Wars portraits during my limited colour challenge, Huely which took place in July. The serires also consists of portraits of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

It’s no secret that I love these films, and that I’ve drawn Carrie Fisher both as herself, Princess Leia, and General Leia on several occasions. Though I don’t draw Leia with her famous space buns all that often, but it felt right for this series.

The time lapse and creation of this portrait is up on YouTube, it’s bundled with the other portraits in the series. If you want to see just this portrait, the process starts at the 1:22 mark.
