Horsetail fall is a seasonal waterfall on the east side of El Capitan, located in Yosemite National Park in California. It usually flows during winter and early spring, and in February, the setting sun illuminates the waterfall, making it glow red and orange. It was no accident that I painted this scenery for this specific colour palette during Huely 2021, the yellows and oranges stand out so well against the dark purple and blue.

Huely is a limited colour palette art challenge I’ve set myself for a few years, and is held during July (hence the name). This is one of three images painted using the same colour palette, the rest of the series include White Sands National Park and Biscayne National Park.
